Seniors to learn about cyber rip offs, scams and frauds at Redland seminar

Aged care provider Tall Trees Redland Bay is holding a free community Cyber Fraud Seminar for seniors on Friday 27 April to help them better identify web-based risks that can compromise their personal details or result in significant financial loss.

All local seniors from the Redlands and surrounding areas are invited to attend the seminar sponsored by Bendigo Community Bank Victoria Point, with Wynnum District Police Sergeant Joe Cranitch speaking from 11am.

Nifsan CEO Sean Wardrop says the trend in major cities around the world is shifting to a more space conscious and environmentally friendly way of living, and the Gold Coast is no different.

Mercury rising as a star performer in Gold Coast IT industry

When Luke Halliday and AJ Williams first started working together at a small IT company on the Gold Coast, they could not have foreseen that they would be the directors of their own business within a few years.

However, eight years on Mr Halliday and Mr Williams are at the helm of Mercury IT, one of the Gold Coast’s most successful IT operations, having achieved year-on-year growth for the last five financial years, and in particular, 113 percent growth in the 2010 financial year.

New online platform to provide trades with discount deals

A new Gold Coast based company, Trade Saver, is launching the first online group-buying platform for the trades and home renovation industry, providing them more for their money through heavily discounted deals.

Group buying has exploded onto the Australian market in recent years and the sudden rise of websites dedicated to giving cheaper prices has been popular with consumers.

Classic Cinema for Seniors

Aged care provider Tall Trees is holding its second classic cinema event at the Ormiston Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday 10 April showing an old favourite – Singing In The Rain.

Tall Trees launched their free Senior Cinema Series on April 2 in Rothwell to take seniors back to an era of excellent film and now it’s coming to Redland Bay.

Greek grand opening at Emerald Lakes

Emerald Lakes’ European Village is set to become the Gold Coast’s newest international dining hub after their Greek restaurant opened on Friday 7 January.

The new dining venue is operated by Majit Pourbozorgi, who has worked in over 15 restaurants and food outlets in the past 30 years, both on the Gold Coast and in England.

Proposed Burleigh Woolworths puts spotlight on Central GC Chamber’s role

While the proposed development of a Woolworths in Burleigh Heads has raised a number of concerns, the local Chamber of Commerce says competition is the best way to combat price rises and provide a better service to consumers.

Chamber president Jason Deacon says the group who are protesting the development has approached the Chamber for assistance in its endeavours, but as a Chamber of Commerce their core focus is to represent businesses and business people.

The Central Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce says now the Queensland state elections are over, it’s time to ensure the needs of Gold Coast business owners are placed firmly on the government’s agenda.
