The award-winning, Burleigh-based tortilla manufacturer, Diego's, has been supplying authentic Mexican tortillas and home-made salsa to Gold Coast hospitality businesses and hungry customers since 1995.Endeavouring to promote healthy and active living, every year Diego's sponsors and donates to sporting organisations and clubs in the local community. Last month, they handed over a sponsorship package to the value of $3,000 consisting of two custom-made Diego's branded surfboards which were gifted to local teenage surfers, Roxy and Aidan, members of the MNM Boardriders Club in Miami. This is the sixth year Diego's has provided a sponsorship package, and the Zakazukha team were privileged to capture the heart-warming moment when Diego's owner Deann handed over the two surfboards to Roxy and Aidan, filming and photographing the event at their favourite surf break in Miami. It was great to spend time on the beach with Deann, the lucky surfers and their proud parents, and the team at Zakazukha can't wait to see what the future holds for Roxy and Aidan's surfing journey.
Meet the surfer: Roxy
At thirteen years of age, Roxy has been surfing since she was just four years old. Safe to say, she is keen on anything surf related and especially loves how peaceful the ocean is compared to any other place in the world. Being sponsored by Diego's is a massive opportunity for my future as a surfer, and I'm so grateful for their support, said Roxy. I see it as a major milestone in my surfing career and it paves the way for even bigger and better opportunities in the future. When she's not in the water, Roxy enjoys competing in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with her dad and as a very disciplined practitioner, she's already received her orange belt.
Meet the surfer: Aidan
Asking fourteen-year-old Aidan when he started surfing, we got a big surprise he's only been surfing for two and a half years and is already ripping up the competition! I've always loved the water, sharing waves with my mates, chasing the next trick and the rush of catching a break, said Aidan. Being sponsored by Diego's means the world and encourages me to follow my dream to be a pro surfer. When the swell is too small or there are no waves, Aidan enjoys wakeboarding or skateboarding around the Gold Coast in his spare time.
Is there value in community sponsorships when marketing your business?
Having a strong community presence when marketing a business can be just as important as any other marketing activity. But first, it's important to understand your company values, messaging and who your intended audience is. Choosing meaningful causes that align with the message you'd like your business to convey may give you that warm and fuzzy feeling, but it can also be worth its weight in gold when it comes to relationship building and brand recognition. In the case of Diego's, they have been active members of the community since establishing their business over 25 years ago. By providing sponsorships, donations, and fundraising opportunities, Diego's has been able connect with the locals who support them and in-turn build their brand. On another note, let's not forget the marketing opportunities that can come from community engagement with social media content, blog posts and media opportunities. In the end, it's a win-win situation for all involved. Looking to make a better connection, but don't know where to start? Zakazukha can work with you to seek out various community engagement opportunities that best align with your business and create meaningful and worthwhile marketing activities.
